Ward Priority : Sheltered Accommodation

Councillor David Denholm visits Shield Court
Great offer at refurbished accommodation

Following up on agreement, at the annual ward priority-setting meeting, that Councillors look at the changing housing needs of older residents, Walkergate's Councillors have been out and about to see investment by YHN (Your Homes Newcastle). Visits come as work begins on refurbishment of Milecastle House, Stotts Road in the Walkergate ward.

The annual ward priority-setting process enabled local people to have their say and agree, with Councillors, on local actions for 2016/17. These have been worked-up into an Action Plan.

Councillors have visited a refurbished Shields Court, Shieldfield and the new Tree-Top Village on Walker Road. Both schemes will open shortly.

Councillors were pleased to see the significant investment being made by YHN into their estate for older residents. Both Shieldfield Court and Tree-Tops provide a mix of one and two bedded flats, the latest in kitchens and wet-rooms and communal rooms and planned activities.
