HRH The Princess Royal visits City Library
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will visit Newcastle on Thursday (Feb 16).
The Princess Royal will meet volunteers of Citizen’s Advice Newcastle which recently relocated into the City Library, and also the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cllr Hazel Stephenson.
Her Royal Highness will visit an exhibition in the library which celebrates the 800th anniversary of the Mayoralty and Freemen of Newcastle.
Lord Mayor, Cllr Stephenson, said: “It’s a great honour for the city to host this visit by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. She is Patron of Citizens Advice nationally, and our local office here does a great deal to help people with a wide range of issues.
“This is a very special year for Newcastle as we celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Mayoralty and Freemen in the city so I am delighted that Her Royal Highness can join us and show her support.”
Chief Executive of Citizens Advice Newcastle, Shona Alexander, said: “Our relocation to City Library has been a huge success. We have nearly doubled the numbers of people we advise every day, using tablet computers to speed up our services.
“Her Royal Highness is a huge supporter of Citizen’s Advice across the country so we are delighted to welcome her to Newcastle and show how we have modernised our services.”
Her Royal Highness will be presented with a book, The History of Newcastle, written by local author and TV presenter John Grundy.
During her visit, HRH will also meet library staff who curated the Exhibition of the Mayoralty and other local dignitaries.
