Bank Holiday Blue Bin collection alteration
There will be a change to some residents blue bin collections over the Christmas period. Households who were expecting a collection on Tuesday 27 December will receive a letter through the door informing them of the revised date.
The letter will tell people if their new date is Wednesday (28), Thursday (29) or Friday (30).
The areas (wards) in question will be Castle; East Gosforth; Fawdon; Parklands; West Gosforth; and Woolsington.
The quickest way for residents to find out their revised Bank Holiday blue bin day is to type their postcode into the “Check Your Bin Day” section of www.newcastle.gov.uk/bins. It provides updated information about blue and green bin collection dates.
Residents are asked to put out their blue bin for collection by 06:30am on the day in question (and no earlier than the night before).
The necessary alterations has been made to ensure there are no disruptions to the ‘green’ bin service over the busy Christmas time; as our refuse teams work hard to clear food and general household waste that has accumulated over the festive season.
All blue and green collections the following week will proceed as planned.*
* All other blue bin collections on 28, 29 and 30 December will be unaffected.
For those residents who would prefer to drop off their additional waste and recycling, the council’s three Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open every day except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The centres can be found at Glasshouse Street (Byker); Brunswick Industrial Estate (Sandy Lane) and Walbottle Road (Walbottle). The opening times are 8am to 6pm except for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when all three sites will close at 4pm.
