Heaton Park and Armstrong Park are two of the five parks that make up Ouseburn Parks. The other three parks are Jesmond Dene, Jesmond Vale and Paddy Freeman’s Park.

Heaton Park boasts a variety of shrubs, trees and flower beds. Armstrong Park is a mature woodland site with a slightly wilder feel.

Opening times

Both parks are open at all times.


Heaton Park can be accessed on foot from various entrances, including through Armstrong Park, from Ouseburn Road, Heaton Road and Heaton Park View.

Armstrong Park entrances are on Jesmond Vale Lane, Armstrong Bridge and Ouseburn Road.


Heaton and Armstrong Parks have a variety of facilities to ensure visitors have an enjoyable day.

  • There is a large playground within Heaton Park.
  • In Armstrong Park there is a bowling green and tennis and basketball courts.
  • Sambuca Café and Restaurant is based in Heaton pavilion and offers Italian food and snacks. Visit the Sambuca website
  • Toilets - there are public toilets at the Pavilion in Heaton Park within Sambuca Restaurant.

Visitor Centre

Heaton and Armstrong Parks are represented at the Ouseburn Parks Visitor Centre which is based in Jesmond Dene.


There are sections of path through Heaton and Armstrong Parks which are wide and flat for everyone to enjoy.

There are car parks along Jesmond Vale Lane and Heaton Park View with disabled spaces at both.

A disabled toilet is located at the Sambuca Restaurant at the pavilion in Heaton Park.

How to get to Heaton and Armstrong Parks

The parks are on main bus routes, with bus stops on Heaton Road, Heaton Park Road and Warwick Street, all within a short walking distance from Heaton Park.

Coast Road buses operate frequently, with a bus stop by the Corner House Public House being the closest to the northern end of Armstrong Park.


The nearest Metro station is in Byker, approximately one mile south of Heaton Park.


Heaton Park is accessible from Heaton Park View and Heaton Road.

There is on site parking, accessible from Heaton Park View and Jesmond Vale Lane.

For Armstrong Park, use parking for Heaton Park, Jesmond Dene or at the eastern end of Armstrong Bridge.

Friends of Heaton Park

The Friends of Heaton and Armstrong Park group hold monthly meetings with City Council Officers and local Councillors.
