Denton Dene is an area of semi natural woodland designated as a site of local nature conservation importance in 1983 and a local nature reserve in 1991.

Denton Dene is an important wildlife corridor running through the heart of the west end of the city.

Denton Dene is open at all times.


Denton Dene runs through the west end of the city. There are two entrances via Broadwoad Road at the bus terminus and two entrances along Wood Grove.


There are no public toilets or indoor facilities.


Footpaths are steep in places; wheelchairs would find the site difficult to access.

How to get to Denton Dene


The nearest stops are on Denton Road (Stagecoach no.1) and Broadwood Road (Stagecoach no. 31, 38)


The site has a small car park available at Scotswood Sports Centre on Denton Road.

Friends of Denton Dene

The Friends of Denton Dene are a community group established to encourage local participation in the promotion, use and improvement of the Dene. All members are volunteers who work with the council and other agencies or partners to improve the quality of life of local residents through education, leisure and environmental enhancements.
