Newcastle Council believes in both the social and economic value of art. We know that watching world-leading practitioners create theatre, paintings, pottery or sculpture immeasurably adds to our civic life.

We know that creating art improves people's lives and allows them to express pride in where they live as well as the history we all share. The Arts Development team works hard to make this happen.

We also know art creates jobs, particularly in the city's vibrant creative industries sector, and has the potential to attract outside investment into communities - it can make a real difference to our city.

And we make sure that arts and cultural activity is fully integrated into all city council strategies, policies and objectives. For example, we help our schools and youth services to make sure they maximise the creativity of the young people who use them and we celebrate the diversity of Newcastle's communities by encouraging them to share their own cultures with us.
