Newcastle Children’s Social Care is a great place to be a Social Worker. 

We have high aspirations for our services and have invested heavily in the development of our workforce and ground breaking service redesign using Systemic Practice and Signs of Safety as our approach.

Detailed workforce planning has ensured that we have a stable workforce with any vacancies recruited to immediately and successfully, all staff recruited are of high quality reflecting the ambition and standards of our service.

We have a strong mix of experienced qualified Social Workers and NQSWs. 

Social Workers receive regular reflective supervision, including Group Supervision and have access to a high quality comprehensive training programme. We are committed to supporting our Social Workers through professional development, opportunities for advancement and involvement in regional and national initiatives.

Our management group are no exception to this investment and we are working closely with First Line through an innovative management development programme to support our team leaders. 

All team managers undertake Systemic Practice Leadership training and Signs of Safety Advanced Practitioner Training to enhance their practice leadership skills. Our team managers also have the opportunity to undertake a Diploma in Management Studies.

Newcastle City Council are part of the North East Teaching Partnership and therefore provide Social work student placements for those Universities within the partnership. We also run both Frontline and Step up to Social Work which are two intensive training programmes for trainee Social Workers who already hold an undergraduate degree.
