Private Sector Housing Plan

Private Sector Housing Plan

To ensure we make best use of our private sector housing stock the city council has recently adopted a new  Private Sector Housing Plan (2016 – 2019)

The plan aims to provide assistance which will encourage homeowners and landlords to invest in their own property and which will allow public funds to be targeted at the most vulnerable individuals living in the worst housing conditions, especially within areas of market weakness.  In addition, public funds will be used to meet the City Council objectives, notably reducing the number of non-decent homes, targeting empty properties and alleviating poor energy efficiency. This will ensure that residents, whether owner occupiers or privately renting tenants, are living in properties which are decent and suitable for their needs. This will further ensure that homes do not impact negatively on the lives and health and wellbeing of residents or the fabric of neighbourhoods.
