You can claim Housing and/or Council Tax Reduction in a number of circumstances, for example if:
- you are on income support or job seekers allowance
- you are on a low income
- you are employed or self employed
- you are in receipt of pension credit
As Universal Credit has started to be rolled out across Newcastle, it may be that you need make a claim for Universal Credit instead of Housing Benefit. You should first check your which benefit you should claim by using our postcode checker.
However, you will still need to complete a form to claim a reduction on your council tax bill which can be filled in using using our Housing and Council Tax Reduction online claim form
What happens next?
Once we assess your claim for Housing and/or Council Tax Reduction, we will notify you in writing of our decision or you can sign up to monitor your claim online by registering at www.newcastle.gov.uk/myaccount
