Newcastle City Council is now an accredited Fostering Friendly employer. The scheme, developed by the leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network, encourages employers to support their staff to foster young people alongside their current job.
For current employees of Newcastle City Council, this allows them to take up to five days paid leave per year for fostering related activities. This may include attending meetings or training throughout the assessment process, welcoming a young person into their home or responding to emergencies.
