The Neighbourhood Environmental Action Teams (NEAT) provide additional resources to complement existing Council services and ensure areas either about to start demolition or areas in regeneration are well managed, free from environmental crimes and kept looking clean, tidy and attractive.

The role of the Neighbourhood Environmental Action Team is to support the Bridging Newcastle Gateshead programme of the Housing Market Renewal by restoring and maintaining confidence in neighbourhoods undergoing regeneration through high quality and highly responsive environmental maintenance.

The teams are multi-disciplinary, have a variety of equipment carried on their vehicles (for example hedge cutters, chainsaws, lawn mowers and strimmers).  They can tackle day to day environmental issues that local people say are problems; fly tipping, graffiti, abandoned vehicles and minor repairs to void properties.  They will receive work instructions from various estate based staff and through direct contact with local people.
