Newcastle City Council is a Market Authority operating markets on all seven days of the week. We hold a market franchise for the city and have a policy of operating or controlling all markets within its boundaries and within a distance of 6.66 miles from the council's own markets.

A market is defined as "a concourse of buyers and sellers" and this therefore includes car boot sales, fairs and any type of market, including speciality markets.

In order that the city council may consider an application it is necessary for a form to be completed (pdf, 221KB) at least four weeks before the proposed date of the (first) market.
