One of the council's main priorities is to ensure that Newcastle is a working city. Our ambition is to create a strong and sustainable economic future, where prosperity and growth are shared for the benefit of all. Local businesses have a huge part to play in delivering this growth, and we need to ensure our actions both encourage and support our business community.

We are working hard to develop a business-friendly culture, demonstrated by our wide range of activities and services working with businesses at a local level; whether that is procuring goods and services from local suppliers (53% of our influential procurement spend is with North East suppliers, in comparison to a national average of 35.8%); ensuring businesses are meeting their statutory requirements; through to running events to help businesses be more successful.

Understanding the needs of our local businesses is key, and we'd welcome any feedback, ideas and views around ways the local economy can be stimulated.

We know that many local businesses don't know about the support the council can offer or where to go for assistance. That is why we have produced this updated guide, listing in one place what we do and who to contact. Our hope is that local businesses will continue to find this guide useful, accessing support where needed, and driving forward the Newcastle economy.
