Stonewall works to achieve equality and justice for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people. The Council has signed up to the Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme, which is a good practice forum for sexual orientation where employers can work with Stonewall, and each other, to promote diversity in the workplace. As a result of this the Council has entered the Stonewall Workplace Equality index which is an index of top 100 employers for LGB staff. Newcastle City Council came 28th in the 2010 index compared to 30th last year. We also promote Newcastle City Council as an employer in a publication entitled "Starting Out" which is a recruitment guide for LGB people. Stonewall is also available for advice about the Council's work on sexual orientation.
