An aerial view of the Haymarket, Newcastle upon Tyne, taken in 1995. The photograph is looking north towards St Thomas Church. In the foreground, is The Farmer's Rest pub which incorporates the former 'Newcastle Breweries Ltd Ginger Beer Works'. The buildings behind The Farmer's Rest have been demolished. Work is also being carried out on the Haymarket Bus Station. Haymarket Metro Station, the South African War Memorial, St Thomas Church and the Civic Centre can be seen in the distance.
The Farmer's Rest and its adjoining buildings were demolished in 1995 to make way for the extension to Marks and Spencers. A new bus station was built at the Haymarket, as part of this development.
