Safe Newcastle
Safe Newcastle is a new partnership which brings together the work of the Newcastle Community Safety Partnership and Newcastle Drug Action Team.
Every three years a new strategy is written to set out what needs to be done to make Newcastle a safe place. This takes into account percentage increases and decreases in various crimes such as robbery, theft from motor vehicles, theft of motor vehicles, violent behaviour and criminal damage. From these results an overall crime percentage increase or decrease for Newcastle over a given amount of time can be calculated.
As a direct result of surveys carried out, it was found that many people feel safe in Newcastle, especially in comparison to other cities in the country.
The following priorities will create better lives and stronger communities for the people of Newcastle by 2008:
Aims to reduce:
- thefts from people, cars, homes and businesses;
- drug-related crime, the supply of drugs and the harm caused by drugs;
- alcohol-related crime, the misuse of alcohol and the harm caused by alcohol;
- anti-social behaviour; and
- hate crime, domestic violence and harm to vulnerable people
The work will be led by:
- Newcastle City Council
- Northumbria Police
- Northumbria Police Authority
- Newcastle Primary Care Trust
- Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service
Newcastls is a great place and Safe Newcastle will be doing all it can to make it even better, safer and healthier for everyone to enjoy.
