There are many approaches to reduce anti-social behaviour ranging from enforcement tactics which respond to current behaviour through to preventative work to stop it happening in the first place. This cross cutting theme recognises that the success will be influenced by having the capacity to strike the proportionate balance between enforcement and prevention. Getting the balance right can bring a range of positive benefits for NRF communities:
· Reduce peoples worries about crime and disorder · Disrupt the activities of persistent criminals · Prevent the decline of neighbourhoods · Deflect young people from involvement in more serious crime · Improve communities’ confidence in the police and other agencies · Release scarce resources that are currently used to repair damage for other much needed investment · It can empower and strengthen local communities (geographic and special interest) · Support victims and encourage witnesses The six projects of the NRF Anti-Social Behaviour Cross-Cutting Programme are: Positive About Youth Sound sense Green Space Programme Nightwatch Graffiti Alcohol Awareness & Access For more information on the above projects, please contact Kevin McGready ASB Co-ordinator Community Safety Unit Regeneration Directorate Room 205 Civic Centre Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8PR 0191 211 5895 kevin.mcgready@newcastle.gov.uk
