Reserving and suspending parking places

Reserving and suspending parking places

If you have received an offer for a reservation/suspension, payment can be made below.

Pay an on-street bay suspension

Pay an off-street bay suspension

What is a reservation/suspension?

You can request that a bay or a number of bays are reserved for your use or suspended. This stops people from parking in those bays leaving them free for you to use, or to keep them empty.

Please note that we may not be able to grant every request to reserve or suspend bays - we take into account the reason you want to take bays out of public use, the impact it will have on other people and the availability of other options.

Depending on the circumstances we may hood the relevant meters or ticket machines off and cone and tape the appropriate area to stop other vehicles using the bays you have requested (such as if you require a parking bay outside a property within a permit parking scheme reserving to help facilitate a house move).. If you wish to park vehicles in the bays we may also issue you with permits to display to prove that the correct vehicle is parked within the bay(s).

Why might I need to do it?

There are many reasons people apply to suspend parking bays, including:

  • to put a skip or building materials in them;
  • for safety reasons;
  • to keep a route clear.

How do I do it?

To suspend or reserve parking places you can complete the online Reservation/Suspension Application Form.

We need to receive the completed form back at least 3 working days before you want the bays reserved or suspended otherwise it is unlikely that we can guarantee you can use them.

Information regarding how your personal data may be collected, processed, shared and retained following your application for a parking reservation/suspension can be found here.

How much does it cost?

There is an administration charge of £30.00 (plus VAT for an off street reservation) to set up a reservation or suspension.

You must pay for the bays you use as follows in advance of the reservation:

Reservation costs:

 On Street

An additional cost of £20.00 per parking space per day or, where the parking bay is not marked with individual spaces, £20.00 for each 6.6m length of the parking bay (or part thereof) per day.

Off Street

An additional cost of £20.00 (plus VAT) per bay per day to cover staff costs, hooding of ticket machines and coning requirements (setting out, maintaining & removal).

In the case of the reservation being made by: -

(I) A department of the Council: or

(ii) By Northumbria Police; or

(iii) A recognised charity for fund raising; or

(iv) An adjacent landowner to remove potential danger to parked vehicles during work on Parking Places(s); or

(v) By a statutory undertaker to remove potential danger to parked vehicles whilst carrying out work on the public highway adjoining the Parking Place(s)

The charge will be £10.00 per bay per day plus an administration fee of £30.00 per application

How do I pay for it?

If you apply for a reservation using our online facility, you will be quoted a price for the reservation and can pay online via a link that will be sent to you.

Payment should be made in advance and can also be made by cheque made payable to "Newcastle City Council - Parking A/C" or by telephone to 0191 277 2737 for payment by credit or debit card.

What happens if I no longer need the reservation?

If your circumstances change and you no longer require the bay(s) to be reserved you must notify us in advance by ringing 0191 277 2737 so we can cancel your reservation. If you fail to notify us and the work involved in removing the bay(s) from general use and associated administration is carried out, the charges will apply and you will be invoiced for this work.
