We not only deliver major housing regeneration schemes, but also working closely with communities to improve quality of life.
Our projects are currently being delivered in:
- Cowgate
The Communities Service continues to deliver the Cowgate Strategy, an overarching approach to regenerating the area with the community at its heart. - Newbiggin Hall
Newbiggin Hall is an extensive estate developed in the mid 1950’s with a mix of both social housing and private properties. Significant improvements to the housing have been carried out and the estate remains a popular location for families. - Byker
In Byker our work is currently focusing on understanding and maximising the potential of the social, economic and physical assets in the Ward. This includes working with members, local providers and communities to address those challenges that the Ward faces. All of this work is underpinned by the Byker Regeneration Investment Action Plan. - Ouseburn
The Ouseburn valley plays an important part in the economy of the city and we are working with local organisations and stakeholders to take ownership of wider regeneration plans for the area based around the Ouseburn Regeneration Investment Action Plan. Geographically, the valley crosses the ward boundaries of Ouseburn and Byker and apart of our approach is to make sure that the vitality of the valley benefits the local communities around it. - Walker
Over the next 10-15 years, it is planned to develop Walker Riverside as a popular neighbourhood with 1780 new homes replacing up to 700 properties so that Walker is home to more people than at present. The work of the Communities Service will assist this through supporting local members, joining up services to maximise benefit for the community and making sure that local challenges and issues are responded to. - Benwell and Scotswood
In Scotswood our work focuses particularly on the social outcomes supporting the wide-scale redevelopment of the Benwell and Scotswood areas. As well as capturing and delivering much of the Benwell and Scotswood Regeneration Investment Action Plan. - Make your mark
Make your mark is a creative community programme for Benwell and Scotswood. It is about working together to make your ideas for your community happen.
