One Core Strategy and Urban Core Area Action Plan Consultation

Since 2009 Gateshead and Newcastle Councils have been working together on the preparation of the One Core Strategy and Urban Core Area Action Plan. They form part of the Local Development Framework and set out the Councils plans for future development for NewcastleGateshead.

Consultation on the One Core Strategy and Urban Core Area Action Plan ended on 4th January. We have received over 14,000 comments on the plans, which are currently being considered. A consultation report is now available which provides an overview of the consultation process and summarises the issues that were raised.
Newcastle Cabinet on 28th February considered the following reports:

• Future Homes in Newcastle Cabinet Report (.pdf, 689kb) - sets out additional plans for housing in Newcastle, based on the latest analysis of need.
• Planning Newcastle’s Future Cabinet Report (.pdf, 5.5Mb) - provides feedback on the latest stage of our consultation on the One Core Strategy (OCS) and Urban Core Area Action Plan (UCAAP). Download via Newcastle Cabinet 28th February - 2nd Supplementary document.

It also sets out updated evidence (population and economic growth projections and available housing sites) and proposes a methodology for the selection of sites required to meet the identified housing needs and an initial draft assessment against that methodology of sites.

• Newcastle combined map of sites in urban areas and extra sites in green belt (.pdf, 2.2mb) Note: we are working to identify enough housing land to meet our needs by 2030.  This map combines the sites we can identify in our urban area and those extra that we need in the green belt.  The references relate to our updated Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment 2011 and Strategic Land Review 2011.  This is very much work in progress and will not be finalised until June 2012; we will consult on this once it is completed.

The decisions taken at the Special Cabinet meeting on 28th February 2012 were called in for review by Scrutiny Committee.  The call in meeting took place on 26th March 2012 and resolved that the plan of future consultation be published as soon as complete and discussed by Cabinet in April 2012.  Papers from the Call in Meeting are available below:
