This list is of some of the organisations and groups which have a specific interest in cycling.  Many of them are already represented on the Newcastle Cycling Forum, the umbrella body for cycling in Newcastle.  The City Council has no responsibility for any of these websites.

Organisations

CTC - the Cyclists Touring Club
As the UK’s National Cyclists’ Organisation, CTC has been protecting and promoting the rights of cyclists since 1878.  CTC campaigns locally and nationally on the issues that are important to cyclists.    www.ctc.org.uk

Sustrans
Sustrans is a leading UK charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day. They work with families, communities, policy-makers and partner organisations including Newcastle City Council so that people are able to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, with better places and spaces to move through and live in. www.sustrans.org.uk

BUGs
A Bicycle User Group (BUG) is a group of staff from a workplace/organisation who cycle - or who would like to. It works to improve conditions for cyclists and to encourage more people to cycle.  There are BUGs at Newcastle and Northumbria Universities, the Newcastle Hospitals Trust, the Environment Agency, the City Council and many more.  Check with your employer for your BUG.  If there isn't one, contact us for advice about starting one up.

Newcastle Cycling Campaign
The Newcastle Cycling campaign lobbies for better provision for cyclists across Newcastle. Its aims are to increase the number of people cycling in Newcastle and make it safer and easier to get about by bike. www.newcycling.org.uk 

Recyke y' bike
Recyke y' bike is a community project run by a mixed bunch of enthusiastic volunteers and part-time staff that accepts donated bikes from members of the public. Spares and guaranteed secondhand bikes are sold every Saturday. They aim to Reclaim, Refurbish, Re-create, Re-use and Recycle bikes and Re-train people. www.recyke-y-bike.org e.mail them at recyke@cooptel.net

Bike Club
Bike Club helps children and young people use cycling for transport and fun.  Expert help is provided to develop cycling activities in youth clubs, after-school clubs and similar environments. www.bikeclub.org.uk or contact patrick.carr@bikeclub.org.uk

Byker Bikers
Social cycling for adults with a cycling ability to ride twenty miles or more. Contact Paul.cooper@newcastle.gov.uk   or sue.carlisle@newcastle.gov.uk
Gosforth Road Club
Ages range from 10 to mid 60's. Club members now actively participate in all branches of the sport including Road Racing, Mountain Biking, Time Trialling, Track Racing, Triathlon and Duathlon, Sportives and Cyclo-Cross events. info@gosforthroadclub.com
Newcastle Phoenix Cycle Club
A British Cycling ‘Go-Ride’ Youth Development Club aiming to provide a wide range of cycling disciplines for children in Newcastle, including opportunities to race. They have both youth and junior (7-18yrs), senior (male & female) sections and cover all types of cycling, both on and off road as well as racing and leisure cycling.
