There are a number of ways of getting involved in helping to improve things for cyclists in Newcastle.  As well as the Newcastle Cycling Forum there are a number of organisations you can join to meet other cyclists, take part in discussions or take up issues.  Check them out on the Useful Contacts page.

Consultations

George Street

Newcastle College are building a 6th Form College at the corner of Westmorland Road and George Street.  This plan (pdf 2mb) shows the proposed traffic management arrangements.  Elswick East Terrace and Palace Street already have 20mph limits. Please send any comments by 9 March to the engineer dealing with this, andrew.laffey@newcastle.gov.uk

Great Park to Gosforth Academy

You may be aware that we have been awarded money to improve and create cycle routes to schools as part of the Local Sustainable Transport Fund work.  We have drawn up a plan for a proposed route (pdf 3.2mb) from the toucan crossing on Kingston Park Road to Gosforth Academy.

The route from the toucan north will go north up Farne Avenue and Acomb Crescent to join with the network of paths being created or upgraded in Great Park and is not within the scope of this scheme.

On the Kingston Park Road to Gosforth Academy scheme work will involve signing within the residential areas, a new toucan on Wansbeck Road North, and a speed hump and narrowing of the radii on Park Avenue at the junction with Great North Road. Detailed plan of the toucan (pdf 890kb)

Strategic Routes - please go to the page on Strategic routes for these consutlations.

Other consultations

There are always other improvements going on across the city that might affect you where you live or work.  You can check up on what is happening and make comments through the Traffic Consultation portal.

The Transportation Developments service is responsible for transportation and highways development issues, transport planning and policy development. Find out more on Transport Development webpages

You can also check on planning applications and make comments at the Planning Portal.

Your local councillors

You can also contact your local councillors to discuss issues that affect your neighbourhood.  Many councillors are cyclists themselves but they will all want to hear your point of view.

Other councils

If you have a problem on a cycle route in a neighbouring council area, you will need to contact them directly. Find them in the Useful Contacts Section.
