Road safety publicity, training and education is available to everyone who works or lives in Newcastle.  Campaigns are ongoing throughout the year and link in with the national and regional programme.

Campaigns planned for 2011 include:

  • seatbelt and child car seat safety
  • speed awareness
  • drink and drug driving
  • driving with a mobile phone
  • motorbikes
  • young drivers

The campaigns are designed using accident data from previous years.  This way we can ensure the content is current and directed to areas where information is needed most.

While much of the road safety education is used by schools, other groups can be accommodated on request.  The Road Safety Team offer a range of activities, talks and practical training for all ages and abilities.

The Road Safety team has also developed training and educational resources aimed at promoting positive behaviour for drivers and other road users.

Ghost Street is a 10 minute film aimed at over 12's showing a series of serious incidents.  The film is free to all secondary schools in Newcastle.  To view the trailer visit www.ghoststreet.co.uk.

The Park Right First Time campaign is designed to encourage motorists to park with consideration and not on the pavement creating hazards for pedestrians.  View the advert for the campaign at www.newcastle.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-transport/road-safety/park-right-first-time.
