Newcastle City Council are implementing a rolling programme of installing electric vehicle charging points in on-street and off-street parking locations. This project has been co-ordinated by Sally Herbert, Travel Plan Officer.
The Secretary of State for Transport under powers from the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (sections 64 and 65) authorised on 20th August 2010 for signs (conforming to laid down design) to be erected in Newcastle to inform motorists of charging points for electric vehicles.

If a vehicle is parked in a bay without being connected to the charging point, a Civil Enforcement Officer (CEO) will issue a PCN.
