GOV.UK will be released on 17 October. It will be the best place to find government services and information online, and has been built to make it simpler, clearer and faster for people to find what they need from government.
A trial, or ‘beta’, version of the website has been available to the public since January. You can try that out now at www.gov.uk.
Inititally, GOV.UK will be replacing Directgov and Businesslink. Both of those sites will be switched off, but any links users have saved or bookmarked for those sites will still work. In most cases they will be taken straight to the relevant information on GOV.UK.
The launch is the first step towards making GOV.UK the definitive website for people interacting with central government. More content from government departments and bodies will be incorporated over time, reducing complexity for users and cost incurred by the government.
GOV.UK has been built by the Government Digital Service (GDS) and is part of the Cabinet Office. With the help of colleagues across government, GDS is also handling the transition and creation of content for the new site.
Improvements and updates to the site will be released over the coming weeks, and will continue after the release of the site.
