Europe’s largest travelling funfair is scheduled to open on Newcastle’s Town Moor, two days later than planned, on Sunday 24 June at 1.30pm.
Following an improvement in the weather and a huge effort from the Freemen of the city, the city council and the showmen, the Town moor site is safe for the public to come and enjoy the fun of the fair. Large amounts of bark and straw have been laid to improve the ground conditions, which have continued to improve with the windy, drier weather we have had over the last 24 hours.
It is still very wet and muddy on the site, and due to the ground conditions people are advised to wear wellington boots. There will be no onsite car parking, however there are thousands of car parking spaces in the city centre, many of which are free after 5pm. The nearest metro is Haymarket, a 5 minute walk away from the hoppings site, with other nearby metro stations at Jesmond and West Jesmond. There's a large selection of buses which go up the Great North Road and can drop people off right on the doorstep of the Hoppings.
There are some fantastic new rides for the thrill seekers as well as the traditional rides and attractions which make the hoppings one of the biggest events in the region. Follow @TheHoppings on Twitter or Facebook www.facebook.com/The-Hoppings for more information.
