Sports star Fab Flournoy will launch a new initiative at 1pm tomorrow (Thurs May 24) to get more people enjoying physical activity.

The basketball supremo is set to unveil the new Active Newcastle Card – free to all residents in Newcastle.

The loyalty card, for people who use leisure centres and swimming pools across the city, earns points every time it is presented to earn and free activity sessions, discounts of local retailers. It also gives up to 25 per cent off activity sessions.

The card, which replaces a number of other cards, is designed to be simple to use and help Newcastle City Council better match its leisure services and facilities to the needs of the public and reward them for a healthier way of life.

Newcastle Eagles Player Coach Fab Flournoy will be presented with the first ever Active Newcastle Card at Grey’s Monument.

Fab said: “Regular exercise is an important part of our lives. It’s good for our bodies, good for our minds and makes us feel so much better all round.

“You don’t have to be a top athlete to enjoy sport, and the nice thing about this card is that everyone can benefit from using this by picking up points every time they use it.”

Deputy Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Coun Ged Bell, said: “There are many ways people can have fun and get healthy by using the council’s leisure facilities.

“The Active Newcastle Card will give users real value for money by introducing a range of discounts - and it’s free to residents.”

Leisure Plus Card holders can have their cards transferred to Active Newcastle Cards at the launch or any leisure facility in Newcastle. Visit one of our facilities or visit the website for further information.
