Newcastle City Council is proud to play a part in the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As an Olympic Host Council we are helping stage some of the events in this sporting extravaganza - and we are committed to encouraging everyone to take up an activity or new sport and live a healthier lifestyle.

We have a calendar of events to mark the 500-day countdown to the start of the Games which will give countless opportunities to get involved in activities.

Olympic Gold medallist Jonathan Edwards helped launch the city’s involvement by raising a flag above the city.

Jonathan said: “In the summer of 2012 the UK will come alive with the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and as a host venue city for the football competition Newcastle is right at the heart of this nationwide event.”

Newcastle will host nine games of Olympic Football at St James Park on six days between July 26 and August 4 2012.

We hope everyone will be inspired to get involved in sport and physical activity and invite to do through our Active 500 calendar of events supported by clubs across the city.
