The City Council does not have a stand-alone strategy for its rural areas. However, the Unitary Development Plan adopted in 1998 provides a framework for land-use and transportation in both rural and urban areas and this is being updated in a rolling programme of Local Development Documents within the Local Development Framework (LDF). The first part of the LDF is the Core Strategy and the first draft of this was approved in February 2006 for consultation.
In addition to the LDF the City Council is also preparing both a Regeneration Strategy and a Housing Strategy, drafts of which were approved in March 2006 for consultation. These documents will also assist the rural areas in achieving balanced development in future years.
