Is a large major park situated north of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne. Located off Anfield Road/Kirkwood Drive.  North Kenton Park is a large grassed open space giving ample room for sports and play. The park contains a number of sports facilities most notably the Kenton Park Sports Centre. The area covers 4.25 hectares (10.50 acres) of open space, and is situated in Fawdon Ward.

General Information

North Kenton housing estate was built in the 1950’s. The open space in the Centre, was known as North Kenton Park, and was originally laid down to provide a recreational focus for the area.

By the early 1980’s after being lobbied by the public for the lack of recreational facilities, the City Council responded by a series of developments to improve the park. The park was subsequently developed between 1983 and 1986 turning it from an open space into one of the Cities major parks.

The park has continued to be improved over the years with extensions to the facilities and additional landscaping. The latest is extensions to the sports centre.
