Volunteering with Newcastle’s Parks and Countryside Ranger Service

Got some spare time? Want to learn new skills, meet new friends and help to keep your local environment (as well as yourself!) in good shape?  Volunteers meet regularly at various parks and countryside sites around the city and new members are always welcome. You don’t need previous experience to join in.

The work undertaken is very varied but will usually include working with hand tools, for example: building a boardwalk, hand weeding, tree planting, litter picking, fencing or coppicing.

When working with us, you will need to bring:

  • Sensible clothing which you do not mind getting dirty.
  • Strong footwear
  • Waterproof clothing - we work in all weathers!
  • If you don’t have your own, we can lend you all necessary protective clothing for the task you are doing.

Volunteers will need to undergo a CRB check if the work carried out involves children or vulnerable adults.

Your first step towards becoming a volunteer is to contact us. You can either contact the Rangers at your chosen site, (see below) or if you are not sure where you would like to work phone 0191 2783089 for further information. We’ll then arrange to meet you to talk about being a volunteer.
