Maureen interviewed over forty people from the fishing, farming and mining communities. They remember the days  when the doctor performed operations on a scrubbed kitchen table, men and women travelled to annual hiring fairs to find farm work, and the wives of fishermen helped haul the boats ashore, working up to their waists in water.
