There's always something going on at Newcastle Libraries! We have reading groups for all ages and author visits as well as one off events like fashion shows, film viewings and exhibitions.

Our reading and writing groups can help to encourage children and teenagers to develop a passion for books. More information about joining one of our groups can be found using the calendar above which shows details of groups and who to contact. The New Writing North teenage writing group is run at City Library by professional writer Carina Rodney and is aimed at writers aged 13 to 19. It's a great opportunity for young people to come together to share work with others and to get feedback from a professional writer. It's good fun and there's no pressure to read out your work if you don't want to, just enjoy the inspiration of others. The group meets every two weeks on a Saturday from 11am - 1pm (dates are on the calendar above).
Newcastle Libraries has teamed up with health professionals from Newcastle Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to choose books which are written for young people about the health and wellbeing issues that they can face such as eating disorders, self harm and anxiety.
These books can be found at City and Gosforth Libraries or can be reserved online. View the parent collection.
If you would like to speak to the CAMHS team about getting more help with an issue your child is facing you can phone them on 0191 2466859 or you can ask your GP to refer your child. Other health and wellbeing books which may be of interest include the 'All About You' collection for children and the 'My Life' collection aimed at teenagers.
There are also lots of good health and wellbeing websites for children and young people including free online chat services. View our recommended health and wellbeing sites.
