Fenham Library Update, 10 August 2012

Work on the brickwork began at the end of July and is progressing to plan. The style of brickwork and the use of lime mortar both mean the work will take more time to complete than standard bricklaying. Relatively small sections are laid at a time to allow the mortar to harden and support the bricks in their unusual vertical pattern. Once the brickwork is complete the stone parapet will be lifted back into place and the roof repairs will begin.

The council has worked hard to minimise disruption to residents and we intend to keep the Library open as normal during the rebuilding work. We understand that the length of time taken to repair the library has been frustrating for customers, residents and library staff and we are grateful for the patience that has been shown

We will continue to keep customers and residents informed of progress.

Unfortunately the access ramp at the front door will be temporarily closed while the scaffolding is in place. If any customers are unable to use the steps they can contact us by phone: 0191 2774100 or email information@newcastle.gov.uk and we’ll arrange for our Home Delivery Service to collect and deliver any books.
