East End Library is closed for essential building work. The East End Pool will remain open during the library's temporary closure. Books can be returned to any other library in Newcastle, or to the existing East End Customer Service Centre on Shields Road which will be open as normal.
We plan to reopen our combined Library and Customer Service Centre in July 2016 with these new opening times:
Monday 10.00 - 18.00
Thursday 10.00 - 14.00
Friday 10.00 - 17.00
Saturday 10.00 - 14.00
Please note: the public computers are automatically turned off 15 minutes before closing time.
If we are not open remember you can renew and reserve items, chat to a librarian and access other helpful resources on the online 24 Hour Library.
The East End Library shares the same building as the East End Pool and Gym. The library has level access and ramps to all areas. The building has public toilets including an accessible toilet . The car park is free and is reached from Shields Road via Potts Street.
Come in to see the Byker Banner - a stunning piece of artwork by artist Denise Johnson. It's a painted collage digitally printed on canvas and was inspired by Newcastle Climbing Centre, Byker, which is inside St Mark's Church. The banner's three panels each reflect aspects of Byker and northern life since 1906 when the church was founded.
