East End Library & Community Hub

Easter 2024 - All our libraries due to open on Friday 29 March will be closed, all libraries due to be open on Saturday 30 March will be open as normal.  All Libraries will be closed on Monday 1 April and will open as normal from Tuesday 2 April.

The library is open for:

  • browsing and borrowing a wide range of books including fiction and non-fiction for adults and children;
  • printing and photocopying;
  • using a public computer and scanner for up to three-hours a day;
  • free WiFi;
  • reserving stock including books, DVDs, toys and board games; 
  • advice on using our BorrowBox app to browse our eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines 
  • council enquiries; and
  • freephone to other council services.

The public computers are automatically turned off 15 minutes before closing time.

Access

East End Library and Community Hub  is located on the busy Shields Road and has ground floor level access with automatic doors.  We have a hearing loop to assist communication with hearing impaired people, free WiFi and a public toilet.

At East End Library and Community Hub we have:

  • Very good local bus routes in both directions. 
  • Byker Metro just a 4 minute walk away. 
  • Cycle racks are close by in Flora Street.
  • Limited free parking is available on local streets to the side and rear of the building, but not on Shields Road itself.  Check signage for the length of time you can park.   
  • Electric car charging points can be found on Charge Your Car website
