Adverse weather conditions - cancellations

Following advice from the Met Office and the Flood Advice Centre, we are not at this stage calling the Schools 500 Games off. We can however confirm that due to the playing surface that the primary (U9 and U11) football, athletics and rounders competitions are definitely cancelled as are the golf, cycling and rugby for secondary (U13 and U15). The tennis competition at Excelsior for Saturday has also been cancelled. Corporate health and safety have agreed that the secondary netball and hockey surfaces and the primary archery are currently playable, however a local decision on these events will be made early tomorrow (Saturday 7 July) morning.
Further decisions will be made locally throughout the weekend, dependent upon the type of activity and the playing surface condition.
We will be updating the Newcastle website and Twitter with any announcements regarding the Games. Please advise parents and staff to check the website and the @Newcastlecc Twitter feed for updates prior to leaving for the event. If children do arrive for an event that is ultimately cancelled we will, wherever possible, try to get them involved in an indoor activity.
