Do you want to give young people a voice? Do you like debate and controversy? Can you challenge institutions to take risks? The North East Regional Museums Hub is embarking on an exciting and bold initiative, ‘Stories of the World’ a Cultural Olympiad project. Your role will be to work across the North East to join up young people, World Cultures collections and the communities that were the source of the objects. You will open up ways for young people to work with communities to find imaginative, creative and dynamic responses to these collections in the lead up to 2012. You will ensure that they have a role in renegotiating our relationship with communities around the world, and reconstructing our understanding of what these collections mean to us. At times the issues raised will be difficult and sensitive, both for source communities and museums – can you respond?
You will have excellent project co-ordination skills and exciting ideas of what participation and leadership can really mean for young people. Previous experience of partnership and multi-agency working is essential for the post, as is a real desire to see meaningful results for source communities, young people and museums. Funding is in place for this post until March 2011. There is a possibility of further extension however this is to be confirmed. This post is subject to an enhanced CRB disclosure.
