The Council is in the process of implementing a new pay and grading structure under the national Single Status agreement. The salary for jobs earning a basic between £15,470 and £46,479 is subject to that review and may therefore change in the next 12 to 18 months.

Gosforth High is a highly successful 13-19 school which is part of the Gosforth Federated Schools along with Gosforth Junior High School. We were graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted – ‘Nothing is merely ordinary and much is exemplary’, Ofsted March 2008. The High School has over 1700 students on roll, including 650 in the sixth form and following a restructure of our support services we are hoping to appoint to this new post for September 2009. The postholder will be required to support the work of the Student Support Base. This will involve at times working unsupervised in the Student Support Base with small groups of students and taking responsibility for creating and implementing work programmes, managing student behaviour and assisting students in relevant activities. The successful applicant will have line management responsibility for a team of support assistants who provide both cover supervision and in-class support for students, including those with special needs. You must possess excellent communication skills combined with the ability to manage and motivate groups of young people. You will have experience of working in an educational environment in a similar role, a teaching assistant qualification is desirable.
