The Newcastle Gateway celebrated its first anniverary as the single access point for emergency and short-term supported accommodation within Newcastle on 1st February. The Gateway replaced the Standard Referral Form for participating accommodation services within Newcastle and enables electronic referrals by matching clients with appropriate provision in the City, and also prioritises referrals in order of need.
The Gateway team are conducting a review of the Gateway service to feed into our service improvement plan for 2011-12. As part of this we are visiting teams of referral agents and accommodation to obtain feedback from operators on their experiences of the system and suggestions for improvement. Have you had your say? For further information on the project, please visit our Gateway pages.
The Positive Change Awards 2010 was held on Tuesday 23rd February in the Banqueting Hall, Civic Centre. These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those who have been homeless yet who have made a positive change in their lives in overcoming social exclusion through employment or education. The 2010 Positive Change Awards were a great success attended by representatives of organisations supporting homeless clients and members of the Council, as well as the Streetwise Opera who performed for the guests. The HPP would like to thank everyone who attended the event and helped to make it such a memorable occasion. 48 people received an award, recognising the positive changes they had all made in their lives.
Anyone who would like further information about the awards should contact Sarah Blakey: sarah.blakey@newcastle.gov.uk
