Land Securities are currently on site at
Newgate Street, constructing a major new 19,235 sq m (206,700 sq ft) retail and
leisure complex which will open in December 2002.
"The Gate" will be a covered, multi-level centre with an imposing
glass frontage, housing a 12 screen multiplex cinema, a sky bar with views over
the city, a variety of themed restaurants, plus a fitness centre and stylish
stores selling fashion clothing, books and CDs.
The Gate will provide 400 new jobs and 600 during construction.
