Built by Richard Grainger and designed by John Dobson, the North Easts
most eminent architect, and the first to achieve national renown.
A group of Grade II listed buildings, 2-12 Grey street is prominently located
within the historic office core of Grey Street but has been largely vacant
during the last 20 years and was in a very poor state of repair.
This was the last piece of Grey Street to be completed; it required a grant
from the Corporation in 1842 to do so.
The building is currently under renovation by the owner. A 49 bedroom hotel is
planned for completion in February 2003.
