What happens at Sandhills?

Sandhills accepts good quality garden and parks vegetation from council departments and trade customers (e.g. landscapers and gardeners).

The material is shredded and laid out on site into long lines called 'windrows'.

For the next 12 weeks windrow temperature and moisture content is recorded and the compost regularly turned. The controlled high temperatures reached during this process ensures weed seeds and pathogens are destroyed.

The compost is then screened to <15mm and the resulting product sold as a soil conditioner which conforms to PAS 100 (2011) and the Quality Compost Protocol

What is a soil conditioner?

Our soil conditioner is the result of controlled decomposition of separately collected vegetation. If you require more detailed information, such as usage and storage, please visit our soil conditioner information page

How can you buy soil conditioner?

You have a number of options. We deliver soil conditioner loose to Newcastle addresses and it is also available to collect bagged or loose from Sandhills. For more information and prices please visit our buying soil conditioner web page.

How to deliver in parks and garden vegetation?

The site is open to trade customers for depositing parks and garden vegetation. To read more about quality requirements and costs please visit our delivering vegetation to Sandhills page.
