Sandhills compost facility accepts garden vegetation from council departments and trade customers (e.g. landscapers and gardeners).

Garden waste is shredded and composted to form a soil conditioner which anyone can purchase.

Contractors and professional gardeners can dispose of garden vegetation at Sandhills.
Tipping charges are £30 + VAT per tonne with a minimum charge of £15 + VAT.
New users do not need to notify the site beforehand, just turn up (note opening times above).
Please be aware, this is an operational site and all users must immediately report to the weigh-bridge upon entering the site.
All users/visitors must wear a high-visibility vest or coat and safety footwear when on site.
Users not complying with site rules will be asked to leave site.
From April 11, Sandhills will operate a new site entry system which involves the use of automatic entry gates. The gates will normally be kept closed to prevent unauthorised entry to site.
During working hours, the new gates will automatically open for any registered vehicles (e.g. regular customers). Non-registered vehicles should use the intercom (situated on the gate post) in order to gain entry.
Please enquire at the weighbridge if you wish to register your vehicle for automatic entry.
Soil conditioner is produced by composting garden waste. It is applied to the soil to improve the soil structure and drainage. This results in improved plant growth.
Anybody can purchase soil conditioner from Sandhills.

1) Buy it ready bagged for £2 p/bag from reception.
2) We can load your open backed vehicles (tippers) or large trailers with our loading shovel for £12 (incl. VAT) per tonne. Buy at the weighbridge.
3) We deliver soil conditioner loose for £24 per tonne (incl. delivery and VAT). Please ring the depot on (0191) 264 6958 to discuss requirements. Newcastle addresses only.
