Welcome to Smokefree Newcastle. We are a partnership of organisations and agencies, including professionals from Newcastle City Council, Your Homes Newcastle, the Health services and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, who are working together to reduce the impact of tobacco across Newcastle.

  • Smokefree Events - Smoke Free Newcastle wishes to discourage the sale of tobacco to young people at festivals and events held on Newcastle City Council land. Following the development of this view the following principle with respect to any proposed events on Council land has now been adopted:

"The sale or distribution of cigarettes or any other kind of tobacco shall not be allowed at any location on the event site."

  • Smokefree public places - the law explained in detail - where people can and can't smoke, exemptions, who is enforcing the law and what the penalties are for not complying.
  • Smokefree - how to comply for information on no-smoking sign requirements, how to deal with smoking in a smokefree place and advice on how to write and implement a smokefree policy to ensure compliance with the legislation.
  • Moving smokers outside - advice and guidance on planning and other actions you may need to take if you wish to make provision for customers who wish to smoke. However there is no legal requirement to do so.
  • Support in giving up - the help available to support people who wish to stop smoking and for businesses who are considering offering stop smoking sessions to their employees.
