Newcastle Warm Zone (NWZ), is a dynamic public-privateLogo for Warm Zone partnership set up to tackle fuel poverty and improve energy efficiency across the city. Since it began work in April 2004, this exciting multi-million pound project has benefited many thousands of households in Newcastle.

Over 80,000 of Newcastle's 120,000 households have been assessed and around 50,000 insulation measures have been installed in 40,000 homes. Warm Zone will run until 2012.

NWZ is designed to benefit all households in Newcastle. 

The main aims are to:

  1. Reduce fuel poverty in Newcastle as far as possible;
  2. Improve energy efficiency across all the city's households.

NWZ aims to this by delivering:

This will also contribute towards:

  • Reducing excess cold-related deaths in Newcastle;
  • Reducing Carbon Dioxide emissions by round 1.25 million tonnes over the lifetime of the installed measures;
  • Increasing the average energy efficiency ratings (SAP) of households in the city;
  • Increasing energy efficiency and fuel poverty awareness by offering high quality and accessible advice, including benefits and energy efficiency advice; and
  • Helping to deliver the Newcastle's Affordable Warmth Strategy.

Warm Zone has also:-

  • Created around 50 local jobs during the first four years of the project;
  • Created 30 job training places in the first three years for local people, supported by the European Social Fund.
