The North East Solar Car Challenge 2012 will take place on 3 July at Nissan UK, Sunderland.

The annual event, which has been running since 2005, is aimed at primary years 5/6 and presents an opportunity for school children to learn about solar power in a fun way. The challenge involves building two cars, one for speed races and one to showcase design ideas. In addition to the speed races and design competition, there are a number of environmentally themed activities on the day.  

25 North East schools took part in the 2011 event from Durham, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland. For further information see the 2011 project report (PDF 11.69 MB)

Registration for the 2012 event is now open. The challenge is open to a maximum of 30 schools.
