Newcastle City Council's Trading Standards Service has a responsibility for the enforcement of animal health and welfare legislation. There are over 155 Acts, Orders and Regulations that the service is responsible for enforcing.

The primary aim of the Council is to prevent, control and eradicate animal disease. As an authority we aim to protect the welfare of all livestock on farms, private small holdings and community facilities and to ensure that welfare regulations are complied with during transportation.

This work is carried out by our Animal Health Inspectors. Duties include ensuring livestock is correctly identified and is moved with the required movement documents and cattle passports.
