Be a greener gardener and recycle your waste using our garden waste collection service. For just £20 per year we can collect your garden waste for you.

Current customers

Collections will stop from Tuesday 2 June for those customers who have not renewed.

Annual Direct Debit paying customers do not need to take any further action. If you wish to continue with the service you will automatically be sent a new sticker and calendar, if you have not received this please contact us (see below) to arrange for a duplicate sticker to be sent. For those customers not paying by direct debit, reminder letters will be sent in April and you will need to make payment by 6 May.

You can pay to continue to receive garden waste collections here. You must have your garden waste reference number for payment.

New customers

You can now sign up and pay £20 for the service to cover you until May 2017, you will need your garden waste reference number to make a payment. If you do not have this please phone 0191 2787878 and ask for 'garden waste' or email gardenwaste@newcastle.gov.uk. Please provide your postal address when contacting us by email. Once you have you will receive a sticker for your bin and a collection calendar. It can take up to two weeks to schedule and start collections.

What can I put in my brown bin?

When will garden waste be collected?

Check your bin day online. If you have recently joined the scheme we will write to you to confirm your new bin collection dates prior to them starting.  

What if I move house within Newcastle - will I have to pay again?

Yes, the scheme now relates to a collection service from a particular property or household. The service is not transferable either within or outside of Newcastle. The payment is for the collection service at the property.   

What if I move out of the area?

If you move house, please leave the garden waste bin at the property.

How do you know who has paid for the service?

You will be sent a sticker which you will need to stick to the lid of your bin. Our collection crews will have details of all residents who have paid for the service and will only empty bins with stickers on them.

How do I return an unwanted brown bin?

Arrange online for your brown bin to be removed or phone 0191 278 7878 (ask for 'garden waste').

Can I get assistance moving my bin?

If you already receive assistance to put out your green waste bin, you will automatically receive a assistance with your garden waste bin. If not, find out about the assisted lift service.

Buy soil conditioning compost recycled in Newcastle

Garden waste is taken to our composting facility at Sandhills near Walbottle to be recycled and turned into high quality soil conditioner. You can purchase this soil conditioner by the tonne or in 25kg bags to use in your own garden. Find out more on the Sandhills webpage.
