Most children with special educational needs (SEN) will attend mainstream schools, with additional support provided where necessary. A minority of children may benefit from being taught in smaller groups, or from specialised teaching using educational aids available in special schools and classes.

Newcastle City Council have a Get Connected programme that helps families and activity providers to overcome the barriers that can stop people with additional needs from attending activities.
