Pension Service

Is based in regional offices, but also runs local outreach sessions. Benefits they deal with are listed under the regional office headings below. The Pension Service, on the Directgov website, has details including local outreach sessions (look under 'Local Service Information Points').

From 1 April 2008 combined with the Disability and Carers Service to become the Pension, Disability and Carers Service.  Contact details remain the same.

Local Authority

The Civic Centre (phone: 0191 232 8520) or your local housing office deals with Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.

Benefits Administered Regionally and Nationally

From 1 April 2008 the Disability and Carers Service, and Pension Service combined, to form the Pension, Disability and Carers Service.  The new service deals with Pension Credit, Retirement Pension, pension information, Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance and Carers Allowance.  Contact details, and administration of these benefits should not be affected.

Attendance Allowance (AA) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

Disability Benefits Centres deal with initial claims for disability living allowance and attendance allowance from within their area. At a later stage ongoing claims transfer to the central Disability Benefits Unit (DBU) in Blackpool.
