Newcastle City Council and North Tyneside Borough Council received an award from the British Astronomical Association (BAA) based on the new street lighting equipment that is being installed as part of the PFI contract.

The equipment is helping to reduce uncontrolled light (sky glow) trespassing into the night sky. The award was given in conjunction with the Campaign for Dark Skies, part of the British Astronomical Association.

Newcastle City Council and North Tyneside Borough Council have also received an award from the 4ps, who are local governments project delivery specialists. The award was for the joint procurement of the Street Lighting PFI Contract.
